Introducing for your entertainment...
Harold Fitzwilliam Bennet
Darren Criss. Vampire. Refined.
Beginning of interview. Mercy City Logs. 2014.
For the record, state your name, age and current status...
My full name is Harold Fitzwilliam Bennet, but I go by Fitz, or sometimes Harry. My mother was an extraordinary fan of one Miss Jane Austen. It had thrilled her to no end that her husband's last name matched Jane and Elizabeth's family's name to the very letter, and she was determined to give at least one of her children Austen-themed names. I, being the first and only child, received a heavily Austen-ized name. I sometimes wonder why she didn't throw "Darcy" in there for good measure!
Enough about the name, however. You inquired about my age as well. Physically, I am forever frozen at twenty-two years old. I was born On March 5th, 1880, which makes me 134 years old. Naturally, you've come to the conclusion that I am a vampire, and, at least here in Mercy City, that makes me a Master.
Good. Tell me more about this status if you will.
I came to Mercy City in the 1970s and have been a Master here ever since. There's not much more to tell in that regard.
You don't mind if I record this right? Now, What are you exactly and how did you come to be that way?
I was turned in 1902 by an Irish gentleman, Cian O'Beirne. He taught me all about being a vampire, though I confess I'm glad his attitude towards feasting and turning humans didn't rub off on me. He was slightly more... liberal in those areas. He wasn't, however, the worst person to have around or to have as a Sire, and we spent many decades in one another's company. I read books to him, played music for his entertainment, and even helped him write his memoirs. He informed me once that he turned me in great part because he wanted someone with more refined abilities in those areas than he could himself produce. We ventured all across Europe - a dream that had previously seemed unattainable for myself - and saw many wondrous sights. My knowledge of world art and literature flourished as well, and for that I'm ever thankful. Eventually, though, Cian grew tired of traveling and wanted to settle down, at least for a while. Imagine where he chose, if you'll indulge me in this little game. I, too, wanted a more stable home for a while, and when you're a vampire with all the time in the world, what's a handful of decades here or there? So Mercy City became our home. At present, Cian and I live separately, though we see one another frequently. He goes about his business as usual, and I focus a great majority of my time on the arts, specifically my own art.
Hmmm, Interesting. Before we let you go, Tell us a bit about yourself. Anything you can think of. Weaknesses maybe? Strength? Any special powers we should be aware of?
In terms of abilities, I have your standard set. I enjoy telepathy, and sometimes use it to help my writing or art when words do not suffice to translate the concept from another person to myself. Primarily, however, I'm a fan of my enhanced senses, as I feel they amplify my ability to create and put sensations into words. I still recall how much more vivid the world felt after I gained my bearings in this new life of mine.
I believe my strengths are my artworks - my music, acting, writing. I may come across nowadays as more stilted or cold, and for that I beg forgiveness. I can't seem to part with my way of speaking and writing. I'm actually quite patient and friendly. I enjoy socialization, though in groups of no more than thirty and preferably quite less.
Please do not criticize in ignorance my art or the works of others. I will not abide by it, nor will I abide by a lack of personal time to work on my own projects. I require at least a few hours each and every day. Further warnings: do not put on a facade before me and attempt to be someone whom you are not, and, for goodness sakes, keep a clean appearance. Those are my greatest dislikes. Those and industrial environments, but they do not prod my anger as much as the rest.
I have some fears, as all men need possess. While in general I enjoy the outdoors (I've become a proficient rock climber and spelunker in particular), I have mild nyctohylophobia, or a fear of dark wooded areas or of forests at night. It has become less of an issue as time has gone on, and especially once I became comfortable with being a vampire. Cian spent many an hour helping me overcome the fear. The intensity of the fears has dropped off significantly, but they still persist in sending small chills and coiling bundles of nerves through me. I do expect Cian will take me out to a forest again in the near future as we're overdue for our few but relatively scheduled phobia-breaking sessions.
