The Realm of Light has been swept by devastation and war over the course of the fifty thousand years since Witch's Purge of the tainted Blood. The power struggle between Blood and landen has led to a status quo that mixes advanced technology and landen stewardship with the Blood's deep-set desire to protect the land.
The Shadow Realm, hit less hard by the Purge, has still seen its share of change. Though Protocol is still the guide by which the Blood live their lives and landens have little influence, Kaeleer is a land of blurred borders and shifting allegiances. In Dhemlan, Kaeleer, a Queen with a heart frozen by wartime atrocities rules – but what happens when she begins to heal?
Even Hell, left all but uninhabited by the Purge, has recovered and remains a place for the strong amongst the Blood to attend to unfinished business and reunite with loved ones. But as the fiercest predators of the Realms are involving themselves more and more with the living, traditional values begin their own return into the Darkness.
